Kahwah infused rum cocktail (4 servings)
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
The first time I drank Kahwah was when I was on vacation in the beautiful Leh Ladakh in India. Kahwah originates in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Kashmir region and is a warm breakfast beverage.
This drink made from saffron and spices just warmed my soul. It’s great to have on a cold, snowy winter day. This cocktail inspired from this drink though can be had whenever!! It just brings back memories from my travel. I call this cocktail the ‘Legend of Kashmir’ in memory of this beautiful drink from the region.
Ingredients:
- 2 p Spiced dark rum
- 1 p Honey
- 12 Saffron strands
- 3 Cardamom pods
- 5 Cloves
- 1 Inch cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoon Darjeeling tea leaves/Kashmiri green tea leaves
- 3 Cups water
- Ice cubes
Method:
Bring water to a boil in a kettle. Add the saffron, cloves, cinnamon & cardamom in a tea infuser and let drop in the water as it boils. Keep boiling for a couple minutes. Now turn off the heat add the tea leaves to the infuser and place in the water.
Let the saffron, tea and spices infuse into the water for a few minutes. The tea should be a beautiful dark golden-ish honey color. Now allow the tea to cool to room temperature.
In a glass add 1p honey, 2p rum and pour tea. Stir well.
Slowly add 2-3 ice cubes and top off with a few strands of saffron.
The Legend of Kashmir is ready to drink!!
